Super Animal Royale: Shaking Up The Food Chain

You know the feeling when you and your friends all want to play something but no one has any clue what to play? I’ve been running into that a whole lot lately. My friends and I have been getting a bit burnt out on our multiplayer game options and have been trying to find something new and exciting. In my time of searching, I came across a new game that was in beta: Super Animal Royale.

Gameplay

Super Animal Royale is a battle royale style game, but all of the players get to be cute woodland creatures brutally murdering each other in the forest. It’s quite wonderful. As is customary with battle royale games, the player starts in the lobby with all of the others who will be loading into the game. In this lobby, the player can run around slashing the surroundings with their katana, or they can just hang out with everyone and start a dance party around the campfire. If there aren’t enough live players loading into the lobby, the rest of the spots are filled with AI players 10 seconds before the game starts. All of the players are then loaded onto a giant duck that flies across the map so everyone can jump out and parachute to the location they desire. From there it’s a mad dash to find supplies, hunt down your opponents, and try to be the last one standing.

Historically I’ve been absolutely awful at battle royale games, mostly due to the fact that I jump-scare far too easily. Being in first person shooter battle royales is the worst because the second someone pops into my field of view, I panic and just end up shooting all willy nilly without having the presence of mind to aim properly. I have no problems playing them if I’m trying to have fun with my friends, though. I just go in with the understanding that I will most definitely be the first to die every time. Finding Super Animal Royale has been a lifesaver for me. Due to the point of view in game, it’s far easier for me to be aware of my surroundings and not get startled. I absolutely adore having a game that I can actually hold my own in with my friends now.

Overall Thoughts

I really have nothing but praise for this game. The character designs are great, with lots of options for customization as you earn new items. The simplicity of the weapons and ammo is also a great aspect. There are 4 different types of ammo and 12 different weapons, so it’s much easier to quickly gather gear and get right into the action. Not to mention the hamster ball vehicle that allows you to travel quickly across the map and run over your enemies in the process. There are options to play solo, duo, or in 4-man squads so there are plenty of ways to enjoy this game with your friends. At the end of each game, the player gains experience points and levels up over time. They also receive DNA that can be put towards unlocking a new animal to play as.

Super Animal Royale is one of the best multiplayer games that has come out recently, and I look forward to playing many hours of it myself. The best part is that it’s only $13 on steam, which is a very reasonable price for how much entertainment it brings. The game is currently in early access, so Pixile Studios is still making minor tweaks as time goes on to improve any bugs that may be found, but it’s definitely worth buying and playing right away. So get out there and climb your way to the top of the food chain!
